CVU Inferno Finalists at Nike Copa Real
Jan 18, 2010

In the course of 5 games over a wet and windy weekend CVU Inferno (girls U12) took home finalists medals from the Nike Copa Real tournament.

In pool play on Saturday and Sunday Inferno turned in 3 straight wins against SASC Strikers, Madrid Premier and West Coast FC. The competition in each game was challenging and Inferno was doubly challenged as they were missing players due to injury. Sunday afternoon saw the start of the rain and a tough semi-final match against SCV Magic. In a tight game CVU Inferno played well and pulled out a 1:0 result. This game was Inferno’s 9th tournament shutout game in a row! Kudos to our keeper and our strong defensive play across the field.

The championship game on Monday saw Inferno matched against West Coast FC again (they had advanced from pool play on a wildcard and defeated Real California in the other Semi-Final). Monday also saw the arrival of the worst part of the storm system; bitterly cold, winds gusting to 30mph and rain coming down in waves. We played on the all-weather field at Crespi High School but when they had labelled it "all-weather" I don’t think this is what they anticipated! Inferno lost by a final score of 0:2, but the girls were all winners just for showing up to play in those terrible conditions!
