CVU Wins 2010 DBWV Winter Shootout

CVU Blue B97 (CVU Slammers) played in the 2010 DBWV Winter Shootout this past weekend in Orange County.

The boys began Saturday with a well played game against Arsenal FC White. The team was connecting well and working hard. The boys created several chances on goal, yet only capitalized on one opportunity. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, but CVU clearly played very well.

Their second game on Saturday came against Canyon PSA. CVU seemed a bit lethargic but were able to build up a three goal lead. Canyon PSA came roaring back in the 2nd half and scored two goals. In the end, CVU did what they needed to do to pull out the win with a final score of 3-2.

Sunday morning saw CVU facing ASC Express. ASC had won both games on Saturday convincingly and CVU needed to win to move on to the championship game. CVU started off strong and never let down. They controlled the game and finished with a 3-0 win and a spot in the championship game.

The championship game pitted CVU against a strong and disciplined Pateadores White team. CVU started strong, scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes of the first half. That’s when the Pateadores turned up the heat and put the pressure on. The pateadores scored 2 goals before the end of the half and had changed the game.

CVU played the 2nd half a bit shaky but they were scrappy and kept the game at a 2-2 tie to end regulation. The game went into two 10 minute overtime periods. Both teams played their hearts out in the first 10 minutes, neither team scoring. In the last 10 minutes of overtime CVU turned up the intensity and put three shots into the back of the net.

The game ended with a 5-2 overtime win for CVU.

The boys worked hard all weekend, earning the title of DBWV Winter Shootout Champions. Way to go CVU Slammers!
